Big Blue Pantry University of Kentucky Hunger Studies

If you or someone you know is struggling with food access, click the links below to learn more information about free, healthy food available for you. 

  • The Campus Kitchen at the University of Kentucky (CKUK) is an on-campus student service organization that provides a sustainable approach to reducing food waste on college campuses while also providing healthy meals to those struggling with hunger. Sign-up to volunteer at vhub.at/ckuk.
    Free, locally sourced lunch is available to all UK students every Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in 207 Funkhouser.

  • SSTOP Hunger: Sustainable Solutions to Overcome Poverty facilitates communication between and provide resources to hunger-related organizations in order to engage faculty, staff, and students across disciplines in developing and implementing a strategy to solve hunger and malnutrition through hunger awareness and consciousness-raising, fundraising, advocacy, and academic initiatives (teaching, research, and outreach). 

    SSTOP offers a Meal Swipe program that provides meal swipes to students at UK Dining facilities on-campus.  Contact sstophunger@gmail.com to learn more or access meal swipes.  Click here to apply online.

  • The Big Blue Pantry serves University of Kentucky students who are experiencing food insecurity or hunger. Any UK student, with a valid UK ID is eligible to receive non-perishable goods from the Big Blue Pantry by coming to the White Hall classroom building rooms 23 and 25 (basement) next to the Post Office, during open hours.
  • The Food Connection exists to serve farmers, food producers, students, and consumers through creative strategies for a vibrant, healthy, sustainable food economy. On- and off-campus, the unit supports innovative and interdisciplinary instruction, high-impact service, and outreach with cutting-edge research on foods and food systems.
  • Center for Community Outreach works to connect student volunteers with community partners for a number of volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
